Substance addiction is a growing global concern, requiring a multifaceted approach that extends beyond law enforcement and medical treatment. As part of our commitment to social responsibility, we partnered in the Erasmus+ project Don’t Be Addict, Be Conscious (Ref: 2021-1-PT02-KA152-YOU-000018481), held in Ribamar from June 8-17, 2022. The project aimed to raise awareness about substance abuse, foster preventative measures, and empower young people with knowledge and communication tools to address this issue in their communities.

The program featured a series of interactive activities designed to engage participants and deepen their understanding of substance abuse:

  • Orientation & Youthpass Training: Participants were introduced to project goals, hotel regulations, and Erasmus+ principles, including Youthpass certification.

  • Statistical Insights & Forums: Country-specific data on substance abuse were presented, followed by group discussions on addiction symptoms and its impact on youth.

  • Social Media Advocacy: Participants leveraged online platforms to spread awareness about substance addiction and Erasmus+ initiatives.

  • Creative Awareness Campaigns: Using brainstorming, role-playing, and scenario-based learning, participants crafted impactful slogans and posters addressing drug abuse.

  • Comparative Policy Analysis: Delegates from different countries shared national strategies for preventing substance addiction, facilitating cross-border learning and collaboration.

Key Results & Impact

Through structured activities and discussions, the project achieved several critical outcomes:

  • Increased Awareness: Participants gained a deeper understanding of substance abuse, its causes, and its consequences, enabling them to educate others in their communities.

  • Shifting Perspectives: Attitudes and beliefs surrounding addiction were challenged, fostering a more informed and proactive mindset among youth.

  • Promoting Inclusion & Equal Opportunities: Special focus was given to young people with fewer opportunities, ensuring equal access to resources and support.

  • Empowering Communities: Social media outreach efforts amplified the project’s message, highlighting the importance of recognizing and addressing early signs of addiction.

  • Encouraging Active Citizenship: The project emphasized the role of NGOs and youth organizations in combating substance abuse and promoting community-based interventions.

The project not only helped young people understand the dangers of addiction but also equipped them with the tools to advocate for healthier choices and social change.
