Our youth exchange project, with reference number 2022-3-RO01-KA153-YOU-000093186, titled "Drug Addiction is not Fiction," was conducted in Iasi, Romania, from August 23rd to August 30th, 2023. The project aimed to shed light on the realities of drug addiction and emphasize the detrimental effects of substance abuse.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in various activities and discussions focused on understanding the complexities of drug addiction. Interactive sessions provided insights into the physical, psychological, and social consequences associated with substance abuse, aiming to raise awareness and promote informed decision-making.
A central objective of the project was to highlight the multifaceted harms of drug use. Participants explored topics such as addiction risks, the potential for overdose, and the transmission of infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS through needle sharing among intravenous drug users. Through these discussions, misconceptions surrounding drug addiction were addressed, and participants were encouraged to challenge stigma associated with substance abuse.
In addition to raising awareness about the harms of drug addiction, the project also aimed to provide participants with information about available resources and support services for individuals struggling with substance abuse. Discussions included harm reduction strategies, treatment options, and community-based initiatives aimed at prevention and intervention.
As the program concluded, participants left equipped with a deeper understanding of the complexities of drug addiction and a renewed commitment to promoting drug-free lifestyles in their communities. By empowering youth with knowledge and awareness, "Drug Addiction is not Fiction" contributed to the prevention of substance abuse and the promotion of healthier and safer communities.
